OEM Can-Am X3 rear knuckles use a single shear mount — one attachment point between the knuckle and spindle. Under normal use this is adequate, but under the lateral forces and hard impacts of aggressive off-road riding, that single attachment point becomes a failure point. The knuckle can wallow out around the mount over time, or crack outright on a hard hit. A double shear design adds a second attachment point, distributing the load across two interfaces instead of one. The result is dramatically more rigidity and a much higher threshold before failure — and if one mount does crack, the second keeps the knuckle attached so you can get back to camp. The sealed bearing carrier addresses the other common failure mode: contamination. OEM knuckles allow mud, water, and grit to reach the wheel bearing, accelerating wear.
